The idea of this blog is to collect information about the Scottish actor James Finlayson, with a view to publishing a biography.

Born in Larbert, Stirlingshire in 1887, James started his career as a tinsmith then became a theatre actor before going to America and eventually trying his luck in the nascent Hollywood film industry. Nowadays he is best remembered as a supporting player in many Laurel and Hardy films, however he had much success earlier as part of Mack Sennett’s roster of comedians before moving to Hal Roach studios.

The working title of the book is Larbert Loon: The crazy life story of James Finlayson.
